Ann married Duane Detert on April 15, 1950 in Wautoma; he preceded her in death on September 17, 1984. They raised their two girls in their Portage home which was the same house Duane had been raised in. The family enjoyed yearly vacations throughout the United States. Ann enjoyed knitting and collecting antiques. She worked at the Kroger Egg Plant until they closed, was an employee at Moore’s World Foods and then as a receptionist for a local veterinarian. Later, during her years as a part time janitor at city hall, she became interested in the city political process so ran as a write-in candidate for alderman and won. She served for 10 years and then served for a short while as the acting mayor after a local mayor died while in office. She felt honored to be able to serve her community in this capacity.
Survivors include 2 daughters – Judith (Pat) Moriarity of Janesville and Vickie Detert of Portage; 3 grandchildren – Colin (Jennifer), Eleanor and Dylan Moriarity; 1 great grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, an Infant Son, Allan Dee; sister, Grace; brothers, Joseph, Thomas and Raymond.

“Today, all heaven rejoices. Today, all the angles shall sing, for a child has come home, no more to roam. Today, she is held by the King. Today, all of those gone before her are welcoming her with a smile. No tears will be shed. By Jesus, she’s led, and in only a very short while others whom she’s left shall join her, in glory, where they, too, shall see the wonders of God and the powers of his love. Until then, He gives faith, hope and peace.”
