Raymond L. Berg, 94, Green Bay, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 22, 2015. He was born on March 9, 1920, in the town of Abrams, WI, to Nicholas and Clara (Gassel) Berg.

After attending Oconto Falls High School, Ray attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he received a Civil Engineering Degree. In 1944, shortly after graduation, Ray entered the U.S. Navy. He spent much of his time stationed in the Asiatic Pacific area. Ray was proud to be a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. After being honorably discharged in 1946, Ray began his career for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. He began as a draftsman and worked his way up into management as a highway construction supervisor.

On July 12, 1949, Raymond married Faith Payant at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Wausaukee, WI. Faith was the love of his life. They resided in Green Bay, WI, raising a family of eight children. Many fun times and memories were made by the family on camping trips and playing cards. Depending upon the season, you could be assured that there would be some sporting event to watch, as Ray was a diehard Packer, Badger, and Brewer fan.

In January of 1983, after 37 years of work as a civil engineer, he retired from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. In retirement, Ray and Faith enjoyed 25 years as snowbirds in Panama City Beach, FL.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Faith; his children, Mary (Terrence) LaPacz, Barbara (David) Brandtner, Connie Berg (fiancé, Art LaGalo), Michael (Brenda) Berg, Angela (Daniel) Thompson, Colleen (Wayne) Kiernan; son-in-law, Robert Killian; 23 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Joyce Killian and Dawn Berg; his parents; and six brothers, George, Eugene, Nicholas, Henry, Leo, and infant brother, Wallace.

Friends may call at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 Ninth St., from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, February 26. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 26, at the church with Rev. Patrick C. Beno officiating, and will be concluded with military honors. Burial will be in the Allouez Catholic Cemetery. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bruce Fenster, Dr. David Groteluschen, Heidi and Krystal from Heartland Hospice, and Mike Walters and Fr. Patrick Beno, for the compassion they showed to Ray. He always looked forward to his visits with them all.
