Passed Away at Oakdale
MRS. L.D. DICKINSON SUCCUMBS TO TUBERCULOSIS
Received treatment at Sanitarium for Eleven Months
Lived in Hawarden Seventeen Years

Mrs. L. D. Dickinson died of tuberculosis last Friday night at 10:55 at the Oakdale sanitarium where she had been for the past eleven months for treatment. Her death was not unexpected as she had been failing rapidly for some time. A year ago last July she took sick with the influenza, which later developed into pleural pneumonia. She never fully recovered from this illness, tuberculosis having developed, and finally was taken to the sanitarium at Oakdale in the hope of staying the dread disease.

Her husband and her son, George, spent much of their time at her bedside, George having been with her for the last five weeks. Last Thursday night Mr. Dickinson received a telegram summoning him to his wife's bedside and he left on the 3 o'clock train the following morning, reaching the sanitarium at 6 o'clock in the evening. He was at Mrs. Dickinson's bedside with his son George from then until 10:55 that night when she passed away.

Funeral services were held at Eagle Grove Monday, at the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. Morphy, the pastor. Burial was made at Eagle Grove, beside the deceased's son, Dale, who died in 1900.

Elizabeth M. Blake was born September 30, 1872, in Poweshiek county, Iowa, near Brooklyn, and died April 15, 1921, at the Oakdale sanitarium at the age of 48 years, 5 months and 10 days. She was married to L. D. Dickinson November 26, 1896, leaving the parental home to locate in Eagle Grove. They lived there until 1904, when they moved to Hawarden, her husband having been transferred as foreman of the roundhouse of this place.

Seven children were born to them, George L., Dale, who died in January, 1900, Mrs. D. A. Whitney of Havelock, Iowa, Levi A., Ruth E., Hazel I., and Bertice M. The deceased united with the Church of Christ when fifteen years of age and remained a faithful member of that organization until her death. She was a kindhearted, Christian woman who bore her suffering with remarkable patience and fortitude. She leaves a place in the home as wife and mother which can never be filled.

Besides her husband and six children, there are left to mourn her death one grandchild, three brothers and one sister. The Independent wishes to unite with the many neighbors and friends in extending deepest sympathy to the sorrowing husband and children.
