Barbara Jean Stokes Ireland, 70, of Statesville, passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 at her residence. She was born in Winston-Salem on November 21, 1943 to the late Truman Stokes and Fozie Shore Stokes.
Barbara was a graduate of Griffith High School and worked in Health Care. She retired after many years of serving others.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Bowman and a grandson, Jonathan Smyre.
Ms. Ireland is survived by a son, Wayne Bowman (Teresa) of Carolina Beach; two daughters, Sherry Miles (Jody) and Kristy Smyre (Jody), both of Statesville; and two grandchildren who resided with her, Devin and Destiny Bowman. She is further survived by grandchildren, Michael Ward, Brandon Ward, Ashley Fulbright, Heather Fulbright, Warren Bowman, Matthew Bowman, Troy Patterson, Kaitlyn Johnson, Andi Johnson, Jenna Johnson, Nathan Smyre, Rebekah Smyre, and Zachary Smyre.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, Monday, August 18, 2014 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Andrew Imboden officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home from 2:00 until 3:00 pm prior to the service.
