John is most likely buried in one of the many unmarked graves of Confederate soldiers who died during the battle of New Hope Church. According to pension papers filed by his wife, including sworn witness affidavits, he was struck in the head by a minnie ball and died instantly.

He married Mary Ann Reid on 4 Feb 1850. They were the parents of William Henry Aldridge, Nancy Isabel Aldridge, Thomas Bolivar Aldredge, Martha Ellen Aldridge, Susan Elizabeth Aldridge, James Franklin Aldridge, and John Robert Aldridge who was born 4 months after the death of his father.
