Roy Keith Dearth was born January 11, 1901, in Hardy, Nuckolls County, Nebraska, the son of George Washington and Lucetta Mae (Skeels) Dearth.

Roy served with the U. S. Army during World War I from April 1918 to March 1919.

Roy married Esther Mae Mills on September 21, 1921, in Baker City, Baker County, Oregon. Esther was born August 21, 1901, in Cornucopia, Baker County, Oregon, the daughter of William Eli and Lena Dell (Pancake) Mills. They had the following known children:

1. Duveen Lee (Dearth) Ingalls, (1931-1995)
2. Kevin Dean Dearth, (1932-2012)

Roy died May 14, 1972, in Greenbrae, Marin County, California. Esther died June 14, 1988, in San Rafael, Marin County, California.

Roy Keith Dearth, retired president of Northwestern Saving and Loan Association of San Rafael and Mill Valley, died yesterday at his home at 441 Via Casits Greenbrae, apparently of a heart attack. He was 71.

Born in Hardy, Neb. he attended school in Halfway, Ore., and served in Troop F of the First Cavalry during World War I.

He married his childhood sweetheart Esther Mae Mills in 1921 and they went to San Francisco where they lived until moving to Sausalito in 1929.

From 1923 to 1941, he worked for the Mercantile Trust Co., later known as the American Trust Company and now Wells Fargo, and then went to work for a building company in Honolulu. He was at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

He returned to the mainland shortly afterwards and became secretary to Northwestern, and later became president, a position he held until 1965 when he suffered several strokes and had to retire.

His wife was a vice president of Northwestern and took over as president when her husband became ill, and served in that capacity until the association was sold to Fidelity Savings and Loan Association in 1967.

Dearth is a past commander of the Mill Valley American Legion Post 284, a past chancellor of Muir Lodge 136, Knights of Pythias, a member of the home office, Woodmen of the World and Tamalpais Temple 129.

He has also served as president of the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Kevin Dearth of Novato; a daughter, Duveen Ingalls of Carson City, Nev., and a sister, Tehel sic Ethel) Curtis. He also leaves five grandchildren.

Funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Keaton's Mortuary, and private entombment will be in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery in San Rafael.
