KING, NC ~ Mrs. Eldee Beatrice Adams Gordon, 85, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family.

Eldee was born on June 3, 1929 in New Limerick, Maine. She met her husband, Elmer Gordon, while he was stationed with the Army Air Corps in Houlton, Maine. After the two were married, they made their home in King, North Carolina.

Eldee enjoyed her vacations in Maine visiting her family. She kept her grandchildren prior to their school years and then went on to work for the Stokes County School System until her retirement.

Eldee, along with her husband, Elmer, were active members of the Stokes County Republican Party. They were personally invited to the governor's mansion and were invited to attend several of the governor's inaugural balls.

Both Elmer and Eldee were members of the American Legion Post 290 while Elmer also served as precinct judge and was appointed to the governor's task force for veteran's affairs.

Eldee was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; parents, Ora Lester Sr. and Violet Sanford Adams; brothers: Carl Ervin, William Sanford Sr., and Ora Lester Jr. Adams; and sisters: Hazel Plummer, Ada Hovey, and Avis Adams.

Surviving are her children: son, Robert (Sherri) Gordon; daughters: Gloria (David) Smith, Jane (Jim) Wilson, and Janet (George) Hall; grandchildren: Ryan and Adam Smith, Ashley Ridge and Jennifer Duggins, and Christen and Kyle Hall; and great-grandchildren: Lilly Smith, Ava and Archer Ridge, and Ethan and Logan Duggins.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, March 1, 2015 at King First Baptist Church. Eldee will be lying in state one hour prior to the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Paul Norman and Pastor Ken Evans will be officiating.

A graveside service will follow at King Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of King First Baptist Church immediately following the graveside service.

Slate Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Eldee's honor to the American Heart Association.
