PORT LAVACA - Another cowboy rides away. Nathan Bobby Matson, 89, of Port Lavaca, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013. He was born May 20, 1924, in Thrall, Texas to the late Anton and Ollie Lehman Matson. A lifelong farmer and rancher in Calhoun and Jackson County, he is fondly remembered for his love of coffee, dominoes and driving slowly down the back roads in his pickup. During the 1950's and 1960's he was involved with the Calhoun County Youth Rodeo Association.

After a whirlwind courtship of four months, he married Lorraine Adamek of Victoria in 1947. They celebrated 66 years of marriage in February of this year. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Linda Sue Matson of Longmont, Colorado, Peggy Jean Broussard and husband Allen, and Janice Matson Holladay and husband Tony of Port Lavaca; grandsons Brandon Johnson of Longmont, Colorado, Derek Broussard of Victoria, Troy Broussard and Connor Holladay of Port Lavaca; great grandsons, Vincent Johnson and Dylan Broussard; and sister Jeanette Froehlich of Victoria.

A Celebration to share stories of his life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, October 5, 2013, at the Salem Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Port Lavaca. In honor of our beloved Cowboy feel free to wear jeans and your "oldest" western hat.
