Frances Ruby Jenkins, 86, Houston, Mo., passed away Oct. 3, 2003, in the Texas County Memorial Hospital following a short illness. She was born April 28, 1917, in Ava, Mo., to Louis and Tillie May Brown. She married Richard Brooks and, after his death, she married R.O. "Peck" Jenkins, to whom she was married for almost 60 years. Unto this marriage were born three children, Jack, Chris and Jane Ann. Frances (Fanny to her many friends) and her husband, Peck, owned and operated the Maples Cafe in Ava, and the Chuck Wagon and Lazy L Motel in Houston. They were both avid fishermen and loved camping and spending winters in Texas. Throughout all their endeavors they met numerous people and had an enormous amount of treasured friends. Frances accepted the Lord through one of her dearest friends and longtime neighbor, Melba Barton. She was a devoted wife and mother who also enjoyed cooking, crafting and just being with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Jack; two sisters, Lela Roach and Lena Hamby; a brother, Louis Brown Jr.; stepmother Luna Brown; and a stepsister, Juanita Ewing. Survivors include two daughters, Jane Schoettlin and husband Sonny, Cabool, Mo., and Chris Garrett and husband Harold, and a daughter-in-law, Evon (Jenkins) Long, all of Springfield; two sisters, Betty Sherrell, Springfield, and Norma Pettit, Ava; six grandchildren, Robbin Graham and husband George, Brook Garrett and wife Lisa, Brittany GarrettBowser and husband Greg, all of Springfield, Jacque Jenkins, Carrollton, Texas, Julie Killian and husband Stephen, Calico Rock, Ark., and Scott Schoettlin and wife Lisa, Carlsbad, Calif.; seven greatgrandchildren, Ian and Nash Graham, Shelbi, Josie and Tess Killian, Kaitlynn Garrett and Paige Bowser; also several nieces and nephews, as well as a host of wonderful friends. Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, with funeral service to begin at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Springfield. Interment will follow at Rivermonte.
