Hestel Walker, 88, passed away at home Friday, Feb. 20, 2015. Funeral: 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst. Interment: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, Colleyville. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Hestel Walker was born April 28, 1926, to Bertha Cunningham Walker and Delbert Alonzo Walker in Pineland. He had a brother, Hurschell Eugene Walker, whom he remained in close contact throughout his life. Hestel was a 32nd degree Mason. He married Linola Anne Gray in 1944; they had a son, Nolan, and three daughters, Brenda, Nola and Virginia. In 1988, Hestel married his current wife, Alma Jean Walker, who had one son, John Randle Carson. Hestel grew up in Houston and at age 17 joined the U.S. Navy Submarine Service and served during World War II, receiving medals for his service. After World War II, Hestel and his family settled in Houston and began his career in the automotive maintenance industry where he was distinguished for his ethics and abilities, which led to several important positions at Frank Gillman Pontiac in Houston. It was there that Hestel first met Alma Jean, who also worked at Gillman's. In 1979, Hestel and Linola moved to Fort Worth, where he worked in a variety of positions at several dealerships. After Linola's death, he renewed his friendship with Alma Jean. In 1988, after being widowed for several years, Hestel married Alma Jean. He was dearly loved and respected by all who knew him and he will be deeply missed. Survivors: His wife, Jean Walker; four children; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
