HOLTON - Margaret Arlene "Toots" Glaze, 92, died Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the Community Hospital in Onaga.
She was born February 9, 1923 at the farm home of her parents, Bertie and Clarence Creamer, 1.5 miles northwest of Minneola, Kansas. She graduated from Minneola High School in 1941 and was soon married to Clarence Glaze in Minneola on May 31, 1941. After their children were out of school Toots and Clarence traveled, visiting most of the United States, except the states along the Eastern coast. He preceded her in death in March of 1981. After her husband's death, she moved to the Soldier, Kansas area to make her home. She lived in Skidmore, Missouri a short while but missed the Soldier area and friends, so she moved to Cypress Glen in Holton. When health issues required it, she moved to Red Bud assisted living in Onaga and then later to Medicalodges in Holton.
Toots worked for the postal service at Minneola as a clerk and then as a substitute mail carrier for two regular routes. She later worked at the Minneola hospital, then at the Bucklin hospital before moving to Paola, Kansas.
Toots and Clarence managed several ball teams, both girls and boys. Toots attended each game and served as scorekeeper for the girls softball for several years while their daughter Kay was growing up.
Toots was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Patsy Jewell, who died in infancy, a sister, Hazel Granke, two brothers, Leonard and Willard Aue, and a nephew, Larry Aue, whom they had raised since the 1950's.
Cremation is planned. A memorial visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 26th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be at a later date at Minneola, KS. Memorials are suggested to a missionary effort in Zambia, overseen by her niece and husband, NESTeam International, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 1034, Holton, 66436.
