Herbert C. Ament, 88, of Natrona Heights passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Sept. 25, 1926, in Apollo, a son of the late John M. and Leona Graden Ament. Herbert was a 1948 graduate of the former Eckels Mortuary School in Philadelphia. He was a veteran of World War II, having serving in the Navy. Herbert retired after 32 years of service as a senior analytical technician from Gulf Research and Development in Harmarville. He was of the Lutheran faith and a member of the VFW Post 894 in Natrona Heights and the Apollo Hose Company No. 2. Herbert enjoyed watching TV, listen to Music and doing volunteer work especially at UPMC St. Margaret. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra J. Ament, of Natrona Heights; sisters-in-law, Helen Heist, of Stuart, Fla., Mary Ruth Larimer, of Luthersburg, and Edna Jones, of Dubois; niece, Linda (Leonard) Shellhammer; nephews, Kevin (Mary) Gibbons, and Robert (Chris) Gibbons; and by numerous other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine M. Wayland Ament, Feb. 2, 2012; his daughter in infancy, Susan Ament; brother, John Ament; and by his sister, Louise Ament Gibbons. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, in the CICHOLSKI-ZIDEK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1522 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights, 724-224-8688, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Officiating will be the Rev. Philip Ramstad. Entombment will be in Mt. Airy Cemetery Masuoleum, Natrona Heights, with full military honors accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Herbert may be made to the Orphans of the Storm Inc., 111878 State Route 83, Kittanning, PA 16201.
