Brohna received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Washington University in 1941. She worked as an advertising copywriter at Scruggs Vendervoort and Barney Dept. Store in St. Louis before moving to NYC in 1942 where she worked as a copywriter at a dept. store, ad agency, and at Vogue magazine. After her marriage she and Robert opened Gerwig's women's clothing store in 1948 in Kewanee, IL. In the late 1950's she began broadcasting an hour long talk show on Kewanee's WKEI.
