10/21/1930 - 02/08/2015

Ardell was born to Chester and Nellie Keller on October 21, 1930 and married George on June 9, 1956 in Spokane, WA. She was escorted by angels to her Home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 8, 2015 from Avalon Care Center at Northpointe. Her husband George was by her side holding her hand when she passed. George and Ardell made their home in Colbert, WA. George has spent the past fourteen years by her side seeing to her care as she suffered from Alzheimer's disease. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her at Avalon Care Center at Northpointe where she has resided for the past five plus years. Ardell graduated from North Central High School and worked for Spokane & Eastern Bank and Sunshine Mining Corporation until the birth of their first child. She was very involved with her children as a leader in the 4-H Program for 20 years, as well as chaperoning the band trips of Mead High School. She lived for her children and couldn't do enough for them. She also supported her husband and his career. Her dream was to have horses, and she did.

She rode in the Spokane Lilac Patrol Drill Team as well as other horse activities. She was a volunteer at the Spokane Symphony and at her church. She loved travelling, vacationing and exploring in their RV. The highlight of her year was going south for the winter to their place at Rancho Casa Blanca in Indio, CA. She and George loved camping during their hunting and fishing trips early in their life together, and especially their huckleberry picking trips in north Idaho.

She is survived by her husband, George L. Austin; son, Glenn (Tamara) of Maple Valley, WA; daughter Merilee (Michael) Updike of Spokane, WA; grandchildren Melody, Geordan, Jefferson and Victoria. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Josephine Smith, Indio, CA; Madaline (Jack) Luher, Spokane, WA; and Cecelia (David) Scott, Spokane, WA; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Kenneth and Gordon; sister Eileen and daughter-in-law, Kelly.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at the Mead United Methodist Church, 12611 N. Wilson St., Mead, WA on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 4:00PM.
