Dean Neils Johansen, 80, born February 21, 1918 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah to Wilford and Emma Moss Johansen, passed away at his home south of Mt. Pleasant, Utah September 20, 1998.
Dean married his sweetheart Evelyne Jane Whitman "Abby" on December 22, 1937 in Nephi, Utah. On September 5, 1987 Dean and Abby were sealed for time and eternity in the Manti, Utah LDS Temple.
Dean was the founder of Johansen and Son Fencing Company, a successful fencing business which developed into a well recognized construction company in the state of Utah. He also continued to work at his first love which was farming. He raised three sons who have each been successful and continued with their father's strong work ethic.
Dean was a member of the Pioneer Day Board of Mt. Pleasant and was recognized for his years of service and generous financial contributions. Dean and Abby were honored as Citizens of the Year by the city of Mt. Pleasant in 1985.
Dean will be remembered for his generosity and his unique way of showing his love and affection to his family. We will miss the annual Johansen Barbeque at the shop, $5 ice cream cones, the slow rides in his truck and Oreo cookies.
Dean is survived by his three sons, Alden L. and Martha, Rodger D. and Jennifer; George W. and Barbara Ann, all of Mt. Pleasant, 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Opal Vickers, Clearfield, Utah; Shirley Draper, Moroni, Utah; Donna McShane, Houston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Jane Whitman Johansen, his brothers, Ken, Alden, Robert, Max and Phil and sisters Effonia and Mabel.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 23, 1998 at 12 Noon at the Mt. Pleasant Stake Center.
