Rev. Arthur B. Mayo, 85, a resident of Wesley Village, died Wednesday in his home.

Born in Oneonta, N.Y., he was a son of the late Charles and Edith (Beaven) Mayo. He graduated from high school in Oneonta and received his bachelor's degree from Hartwick College in Oneonta. He went on to receive his bachelor's in sacred theology from the Boston University School of Theology in Massachusetts.

He was a minister at several churches, including Bennett Memorial Church, St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Glen Lyon and Slocum United Methodist Churches, all in the Wilkes-Barre area; Beaver Meadows United Methodist Church in Bradford County; Trucksville United Methodist Church in Kingston Township; Clarks Green United Methodist Church, and Dorranceton United Methodist Church in Kingston.

After his retirement, he served at the South Montrose United Methodist Church until he fully retired from active ministerial duties in the early 1990s.

He was a member of F&AM Lodge 341 in Factoryville and the AASR Consistory in Scranton and was an active Rotarian.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Pickette; and brothers, Robert and Lloyd.

Surviving are his daughter, Bobbie Simons, Tafton; son, H. Jonathan, River Falls, Wis.; three granddaughters, one grandson, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Clarks Green United Methodist Church, 119 Glenburn Road, with services by the Rev. Robert Kolvik Campbell, of Paupack United Methodist Church.

Interment will be in Abington Hills Cemetery in Clarks Summit.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of services Sunday at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to the Wesley Village Memorial Fund in Plains Township.
