Fort Bend Herald, August 3, 2010:

Funeral services for Robert O. "Gene" Dawkins, 85, of Beasley, will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg, with Pastor Joshua Chinn-Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Visitation will be held 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.

Gene was born July 25, 1925 in Hopewell, Miss. to John and Lula Shappley Dawkins. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Gene passed away Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010 in Sugar Land.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Cordie Corinne Dawkins; second wife, Peggy Thompson Dawkins; parents, John and Lula Dawkins; sister, Mildred Bidler; brothers, Ward Dawkins, Maurice Dawkins, Elan Dawkins, and Kenneth Dawkins; and grandson, Jason Scott Eilers.

Gene is survived by daughters, Judy Halsey and husband, Len, of Huntsville, Janice Preuss and husband, Wilbert, of Beasley, Jeanette Fisher and husband, Randy, of Beasley, Joyce Shaw and husband, Robert, of Venus, and Jamie Dawkins, of Beasley; sons, Robert Edward Dawkins of Houston, and William Eugene Dawkins and wife, Hazel, of Houston; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are Robert Vaughan, Wilbert Preuss, Jeff Fisher, Kenny Dawkins, Michael Eilers, and Donald Coffee. Tommy Cherry will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

The family would like to give special thanks to Joe Villatoro, Corinna Cardenas, and Angela Mora for their loving care given to Robert.

Memorial donations may be made in Gene's name to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Donation Department, 4200 Smith School Road, Austin, Texas 78744.
