DONALD RAY CHAMBERS Donald R. Chambers passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015. Don was born in Chico on August 8, 1929 to John and Irma Chambers, Chico Pioneers. He attended Chico schools and graduated from Chico High School in 1947. While in high school, he was very active in football and was President of his senior class. He was also very active in Future Farmers of America. Serving as President of the local Future Farmers of America, he was voted as the Sacramento Valley State Future Farmer in 1947. He attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on a four-year scholarship, playing football and majoring in Agronomy, graduating in 1951. In 1950 he married Bobbye Jones, a high school classmate, and they raised two children; Teresa and Timothy. In 1965, Don purchased the gas and oil business (Union 76) at 5th and Pomona and remained there for nearly fifty years serving the local farmers, construction workers, and friends. His son Tim is continuing this legacy. Don loved to deer hunt and fish. He enjoyed his cabin at Buck's Lake where he and his family and friends water-skied, relaxed at the beach, and barbecued on their deck. He also loved to work in his almond orchard and planted fruit trees around his almond orchard for family, friends and "strangers" to enjoy. The last ten years have not been kind to this hard working man. We will miss him and remember all of our good times together. He leaves behind his wife, Bobbye of 64 years; daughter Teresa Arnold and son-in-law Doug; son Tim and daughter-in-law Terry; six grandchildren, Alison, Ashley, Candi, Brian, Casey, and Matthew; and three great grandchildren, Owen, Chet, and Taylor; his sister-in-law Bev Chambers as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, February 21, 2015, 2 p.m. at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. Following the service, there will be a late lunch served at Tim's home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, The Butte Humane Society, or take yourself and your loved ones to Shubert's and have a milkshake in memory of Don. This was his favorite.
