Joyce was born September 8, 1938 in Afton, Wyoming to J. Delos and Maurine Michaelson Anderson. She was the second of three children and their only daughter. Joyce was a blonde-haired, blue-eyed bundle of energy. She loved to laugh and sing. Having been born into a cattle-ranching family, she was expected to work. Winters in Wyoming can be cold, long and harsh, but there was always work to be done and work was a way of life. Joyce graduated from Star Valley High School in 1956. Shortly thereafter, she attended and graduated from LDS Business College and then went on to receive a bachelor's degree in Business Education from Brigham Young University. After several years of teaching school, Joyce worked as an Executive Secretary for Utah Transit Authority, Tera Tek, and Deseret Management/LDS Foundation. She prided herself on her dedication and dependability to her employers. One of her greatest joys was singing with the Bountiful Sweet Adelines (a women's barbershop choir). She traveled extensively to Canada, Europe and throughout the United States while performing and competing, but always felt the most beautiful place in the world was the drive home from Salt Lake City to Star Valley.
Joyce was very active in the LDS Church and had a true testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ. It was a privilege for her to serve in many church callings, among which were Relief Society president, chorister, and as a visiting teacher. Joyce exemplified service and charity. She loved the hymns and sang in the choir up until one week prior to her death. Joyce very courageously battled Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma during the final year of her life. She bravely endured treatment but lost her fight peacefully and swiftly on February 15, 2015 at LDS Hospital.
