Elma Jean Crow was born October 17, 1921 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the daughter of Gilbert M. Crow and Mary H. (Millard) Crow. She was raised and received her education in the Kansas City, Missouri community where she graduated high school with the Senior Class of Salina, Kansas. In 1938, she moved to Wichita, Kansas where she studied accounting (on her own, no formal schooling).

Elma Jean and Robert William Butler were married in Wichita on December 1, 1945. They made their first home there for five years. The Butlers came to Bartlesville in 1950 and Mr. Butler was employed by the First National Bank and Mrs. Butler began her long career with Phillips Petroleum Company in 1951 in the Treasury Department. She retired from Phillips in 1983 following 32 years of service. Mr. Butler preceded Elma Jean in death and she has continued her residence in the Bartlesville community since that time.

Elma Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church, Bartlesville; Jane Phillips Society (life member); Desk and Derrick Organization; Hillcrest Women’s Golf Association; and the Women’s Missionary Union at First Baptist Church.
