Charles Bayer, aged about 22 years, was instantly killed Tuesday morning in mine No. 4 of the Illinois Fuel and Power company at Sparta. He was a machine worker in the mine and while on duty was electrocuted by coming in contact with a live wire which was defectively insulated. The accident happened at 3:15 o'clock.

Mr. Bayer is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bayer of Percy. About three and a half years ago he and Miss Maude Carter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Carter of this city were united in marriage. Two children of this union and the widow survive.

A funeral sermon was preached at the home in Sparta Wednesday afternoon. The remains were taken to Percy and there funeral services were conducted by Rev. Oscar Meyerscough Thursday afternoon at the Baptist church. Burial following in the cemetery nearby.
