Wonderful Obit in Evening Star reads in part;
Late Wednesday evening January 5th,
Resident of Georgetown for over 75 years,approaching her mid 90's she was still working at the Bureau of Engraving where she has been for the past 35 years..''she performed her duties until Wednesday afternoon of last week ''
Mrs. Philpott leaves 2 daughters Sophie A. Findley at 1236 36th St, the home at which she died last night, and daughter Mrs. Delia Warner also of this city. Just 14 hours before her passing she had her first great, great, grandchild. She left 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren as well.
Service will take place Saturday morning at 9 am at Holy Trinity and be buried at the Philpott family lot at Holy Rood and 8 of her grandsons will be pallbearers.
She had enjoyed remarkably good health until last week when she seemed to come down with a cold. It was only a few days ago when she seemed to get much worse.
Speaks that her memories that go back to Georgetown in the 1830's after being originally from Pennsylvania. Proudly mentions that the men of her family have been involved in every military engagement this country has ever been involved in including the Revolution and having lost as many as 6 or 7 in the service of the country up to a grand nephew that recently died in the Philippines.
Mentions her father as John Leonard and their moving to this city around 1830 and settling in Georgetown shortly afterwards. She married her husband Leonard Philpott of Georgetown whom died about 32 years ago. They lived at different times in the Baltimore area as well, and that Mr. Phipott was a shoemaker and for years had a place of business just outside the gates of the University where he was well known by the students of the College.
The great great grandaughter to Mrs Philpott was born early in the morning the day of her death, to her daughter Sophia, her first great grandchild,daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Carl Findley.
