BURLINGTON - Rodney E. Berna of Chesterfield, MO, formerly of Burlington, IL, passed away unexpectedly on January 18, 2015. While living in Burlington, Rod was the owner of Berna Auto Repair; he also volunteered on the fire department for over 40 years. He served his community as a village board member and mayor for many years. He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Burlington. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 0680 in Hampshire and will be buried with full military honors. Rod is survived by his wife, Susan, his sons Eugene (Tina) Berna, Howard (Cathy) Berna and Major Jeffery (Beth) Kressin. His daughters, Kymberli (Bruce) Wiedenfeld, Kristi (Rob) McCarty, and Jenni (John) Nozka; 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. His sister Cheri Chipman and sisters-in-law Donna Burkhardt and Bonnie Berna-Kelsey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry ('Hap') and Marion (Liedberg) Berna, his brother Russel and brother-in-law, Ed Chipman. Visitation will be on February 21st from 9am-1pm at St. John Lutheran Church in Burlington and memorial service at 1 P.M. with burial following at Burlington (Union) Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Rod's honor may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 85, Burlington, IL 60109.
