SERVICES WERE HELD TODAY FOR ED E. BECKNELL
PROMINENT POLITICAL LEADER DIED AT HIS HOME HERE TUESDAY MORNING
Edwin E Becknell, 56, member of the Becknell & Taylor Real Estate Company prominent political leader, and well known citizen, who spent his entire life in Montgomery County, died Tuesday morning at 5:30 o'clock at his home on North Fourth Street. Death was due to Bright's disease. Mr. Becknell had not been in good health for about 6 months and 10 days prior to his death became seriously ill and was in a semi-conscious condition until the end.
Funeral services were held this afternoon from his home at 2:30 o'clock in charge of Ref. Ira E. Carney, pastor of the Christian Church. Friends who served as pall bearers were Sheriff John Conkel, Dorr C. Taylor, Lester L. Osborn, Joe and W. F. McGreer and Samuel Morgan Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
Edward E. Becknell was the son of the late Allison and Nancy Becknell, pioneers of this county. He was born on the home place near Stennett, which he owns, on May 19, 1875. He was married at Stennett to Miss Iva Berriman, September 23, 1894. They had no children, Following their marriage they farmed the e. M. Carey farm near Coburg, lived on their own land near Stennett and several years ago moved to Red Oak, where Mr. Becknell engaged in the real estate business.
Mr. Becknell was chairman of the Democratic Central committee of Montgomery County. He was elected county supervisor in 1914 and served for one term Mr. Becknell was a member of the Elks and Modern Woodmen Lodges He took an active part in politics and was a lifelong democrat. Ed's relation was the Golden Rule.
Mr. Becknell is survived by his widow, one brother and the following sisters: H. S. Becknell, Mrs. Levi Mick, Anna Becknell of the Stennett vicinity; Mrs. Maggie Smith of Falls Creek, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Ida Thomas of Los Angeles, Besides his relatives, he lives a host of friends who mourn his death.
