The year he was born, 1783, Franklin county, VA was formed from Bedford and Henry counties This is why we see reports that he was born in Bedford etc. His father, Randall Hall, a Baptist minister, moved his family to Garrard county, KY in 1799. During the revival of 1801, Nathan was happily converted. He placed himself under the teachings of Dr. Joshua L. Wilson, and Dr. Thomas Clelland. In 1805 he was licensed by the Presbytery. In June 1807 he was installed over the Spring-field, Hardin's Creek, and Lebanon, Ky churches. In 1822 he became pastor of the First Presbyterian Church at Lexington.
In 1847 he resigned this charge and became an evangelist. In this, he was never excelled. His labors were many and highly blessed by God. In the winter of 1849-50 he located in St. Louis in the Central Church. In 1851 he was installed as the pastor of the Presbyterian church, Columbia M0, becoming a member of the Presbytery of Missouri. He remained with thi church until a few weeks before he died at the home of his son-in-law R.L. Todd.
He married Ann Crawford 16 July 1807 in Mercer county, KY. She was the daughter of Thomas Crawford and Mary Ewing Crawford. After Ann died he married Margaret Downey/Downing, the widow of Col. James Gabriel Trotter of Lexington. Col. Trotter had died in 1827. She was a sister of Gov. John Page.

Letters of Administration were granted to Jeremiah O'Rear by the Probate Court of Boone County MO on 2 September 1858. Final settlement was not made until 9 Dec 1872. The matters of this court were slowed during the civil war; but this does not account for the passage of 12 years. The heirs of Rev. Hall are not linked are: Crawford W. Hall, Rodgersvillle, TN.; John R. Hall, Saline county MO; Penelope P. Phillips, Austin, TX; Sarah W. Todd (Mrs. R.L.) of Columbia, MO.
