According to Ira's death certificate, found on FamilySearch.org, he was a Glycerine Shooter. He was killed in an accidental Nitro Glycerine explosion. Since the 1910 US Federal Census shows him as a coal miner, it is assumed that he died in a mine.
Ira was buried in the Livermore Cemetery in 1917. About 1952, according to Wikipedia, the town of Livermore, in Derry Township, Westmoreland County, was razed and flooded by the building of the Conemaugh River Dam. However, because the cemetery had been established on a bluff, high above the town, it didn't need to be moved and was not flooded.
