"Jesse Cecil Efird, 72, passed away on Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at home in Copperas Cove, Texas. while surrounded by his daughters and grandchildren. Jesse was born in Caldwell County, Texas to Lucille Jean (Ellison) and Carl Claude Efird on Jan. 23, 1943. He grew up in Caldwell County and attended school in Lockhart. He graduated from Lockhart High School in 1961.

After graduation from high school, Jesse attended Blinn Junior College in Brenham, Texas. He transferred to Southwest Texas College in San Marcos and attended college there until he married Doris Jeanne Markos on May 31, 1963.

Jesse held several occupations over the years. The one that he found most personally rewarding was serving as a corrections officer and certified peace officer for Hays County, Texas. He began working for Hays County in April 1989 and faithfully served until his retirement in October 2004. In December 1990, he received Hays County’s Corrections Officer of the Year award.

He is preceded in death by his wife, both parents, and sister, Rose Marie Efird Smith."
