Johnny grew up in Texas County, Oklahoma near the Kansas-Oklahoma state line west of Elkhart. He graduated from Elkhart High School. Johnny was a farmer, rancher and the inventor of the John-Ease small calf chute, which received a patent in 2012.
He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church, Elkhart, Kansas, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher to the youth, young married and adults. Johnny served the community as a board member of the Elkhart Co-op, Morton County Fair Board and Elkhart Cemetery Board. His love of cattle and kids led him to serve several years as a 4-H beef project leader. Johnny’s family admired him for his sense of humor, living faith, tender heart and work ethic.
On June 1, 1952 Johnny married Dixie Clampitt, she survives. Other survivors include three sons, two daughters, fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, three brothers, one sister and many nieces and nephews.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Verne Moore, one sister, Karen Sparkman, two brother-in laws, Dean Carson and Victor Clampitt, mother-in-law, Opal Coen, father-in-law, Richard Clampitt and one daughter, Jonna Lynn.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, Elkhart, Kansas with Pastor Ed Richards and Pastor Larry Olson presiding. Burial will follow at Elkhart Cemetery, Elkhart, Kansas.
