Donald C. Brutsman , 78, died Saturday evening, Nov. 16, 2002, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jean; a daughter, Lynne and Don Brokaw of Monticello; a son-in-law, Les and Ann Boots of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Nan Rivas of San Antonio, Texas, and Melinda (Dennis) LaGrange and Josh and Jake Boots, all of Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren, Lindsay Rivas and Emily and Benjamin LaGrange; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Brutsman of Fort Myers, Fla.; a brother-in-law, John Dolezal of Cedar Rapids; and a special pet, Lamar.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Susan Boots; and two brothers, Sidney and Forrest "Doc" Brutsman.

Donald C. Brutsman was born May 12, 1924, in Central City, the son of Ross and Bertha Schweer Brutsman.

On July 6, 1948, he married Jean Dolezal in Ely.

Donald farmed in the Ely area for 54 years.

He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the 3rd Marine Division Association, Chi Chi Jima Marines, a member of VFW Post No. 788, Ely American Legion Post No. 555, and a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League.
