James Marion Cook, age 93, of Palestine was born in Percilla, Texas on January 19, 1922, to Luther Thomas Cook and Jessie Mae Driskell Cook. He passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Cartmell Home for Aged in Palestine.

Staff Sgt. James M. (Jimmy) Cook served in the U.S. Air Force, formerly Army Air Corp, during World War II from December 26, 1941, until December 31, 1945. He was stationed at Ellington Field then New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan. He was honorably discharged and returned home but stayed in the Air Force Reserves. He was called back into active service in August 1950 during the Korean War. He served at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi as a supply supervisor until August 31, 1951, where once again he was honorably discharged from active duty.

Mr. Cook was a member of the Church of Christ. He was also an active member of the Kiwanis Club and volunteered at the Court Drive Church of Christ Food Bank. Mr. Cook owned and operated the Cook’s Automotive Machine Shop in Palestine for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 66 years, Dottie Evans Cook in December 2012; his brothers, Walter Hamilton Cook and Odell Cook; and sisters, Ruby Luce, Ollie Ashby and Eula Cliburn.

Mr. Cook has one surviving sister, Ella Marie Ward of Tyler. He is also survived by his children, Sherea and husband Chandler Norris of Chandler and Brenda and husband Ken Herriage of Palestine; six grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at 10 am at the Crockett Road Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Herrington / Land of Memory on Friday, February 13, 2015, between 6 pm and 8 pm.
Pallbearers will be Paul Gosper, David Carder, Tom Watson, Ben David Campbell, Bob Stephenson, and Wayne Cotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be made to the Court Drive Church of Christ Food Bank, 1434 Court Drive, Palestine, TX 75803 or your favorite charity in his honor.

The family would like to say special thanks to Cartmell Home for Aged, Heart to Heart Hospice, Dr. Sidney Chadwell, Dr. Gaurav Aggarwala, Texas Oncology, and to all of their dedicated and compassionate staff members.
