ANDREW HUDSON LA FORCE II, known as "John," died April 19, 2002, of metastatic melanoma. Born July 4, 1932, he was 69. Survived by wife Jane; stepdaughters Blair Morrow, husband Rob and daughter Anastasia of Arlington, Virginia and Cynthia Junk and daughter Jane Taylor of Houston; son Hudson and wife Tanya, of Austin; daughter Rene Harkins, husband John and children Alex and John of The Woodlands.

John held BS, JD, and LLM (Taxation) degrees and was a member of a number of honorary scholastic organizations, including Order of the Coif. He was a member of the Texas Bar and a sustaining life member of the Texas Bar Foundation. John spent most of his career in the energy industry as a tax attorney and business executive with PanEnergy Corp, now part of Duke Energy Corporation. He particularly enjoyed his work as Senior Vice President and Director of Dixilyn-Field Drilling Company, a PanEnergy subsidiary operating a worldwide contract drilling business. During those years, he was active as a Director and a Committee Chairman of the International Association of Drilling Contractors. His final position was Vice President of Gas Supply for PanEnergy's combined gas transmission system. John retired from PanEnergy in 1989.

He was a long-time former member of The Petroleum Club of Houston and of Lakeside Country Club, and currently was a member of Bentwater Yacht and Country Club. John served to Captain as an Army Aviator during the Korean War era. He was descended from Rene La Force, a French Huguenot who emigrated to Charleston, South Carolina in the year 1700. Rene's grandson, also Rene La Force, served in the Revolutionary War from Virginia.

A visitation will be held Monday, April 29, 2002, at 2:00 in the afternoon at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway at Eldridge Parkway, followed by a memorial service in the Memorial Oaks Chapel at 3:30 with the Reverend Thomas A. Hill officiating. The family will have a private interment. For those desiring, contributions may be made to The University of Texas M. D.
