John Williams (immigrated 1698) m. “Miss Dixon”
William Williams (dates ?) m. Lucy Clayton
William Clayton Williams (1727-1780) m. Lucy Terry
Joseph Terry Williams (1756-1832) m. Mary Ann (Elizabeth) Harnes
Pittsylvania County Virginia estate inventories exist for William Clayton Williams, 1786, and his wife Lucy (daughter of Joseph Terry and Judith Crawford), 1789. William Clayton names Joseph Terry in his will and his estate inventory along with seven other sons. In the will his son Lewis (evidently the child of a prior wife) is named first and called “my loving son.” The others, all sons of the second wife Lucy Terry, are James Mastin, Thomas Terry, David Champness, William Mastin, Doctor Crawford, and John. (James Mastin Williams has a Revolutionary War pension application on file.)
At the end of the war, during which he served 4 terms of duty, Joseph Terry Williams was a Master Sergeant. Before he left Virginia in 1799, he was a captain in the Virginia militia. No graves for Joseph Williams or his wife and children have been found. The death year comes from family tradition, which says he died before receiving the pension which he applied for and which had been approved.
