AV was born in Cuthand, Texas, Red River County, on May 12, 1944, to Velma Jewel Leatherwood and AV Rhodes Sr. He was a retired forklift driver with 30 years of service with Campbell Soup in Paris, Texas. He was married 51 years to the love of his life, Billie Moree Rhodes.

He is survived by his wife, Billie; his son, Dennis D. Rhodes and his wife, Kristine; his daughters, Debrah D.Spradling and her husband, Mike, and Deana D. Ramsey and her husband, Mike; his grandchildren, Andrew, Todd, Matthew, Kaleb and Jennifer; and, his great grandchildren, Wyatt, Kylie, Levi, Les, Payton and Hunter. He is also survived by his three sisters, Ruth Turner, Helen Linton, and Mary Ann Borth.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Claude Rhodes; his two sisters, Dorothy Turner and Lois Tom; and, his nephew, Jimmy Turner.
