David "Dave" J. Ockuly, 77, of Defiance, passed away on January 24, 2015 at the CHP Defiance In-Patient Hospice Center following a long battle with cancer.

Dave was born on June 9, 1937, to Eugene and Marie (Newman) Ockuly in Chicago, IL. He was a retired business owner in Defiance, operating Circle D & Transmotor Leasing Trucking Company. Dave was a Veteran of the United States Army and proudly served from 1958-1962. He received the Good Conduct Metal for his 13 months in Korea. In younger years, Dave enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and piloting a small aircraft on weekends.

Dave was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1089, AmVets Post 1991, VFW Post 3360, Defiance Eagles, Elks Lodge 147.

Dave is survived by his daughter, Kelly (Kirk) Jackson of Holgate, OH, son, Michael (Bonnie) Mahnke of Sacramento, CA, daughter, Amy (Scott) Franklin of Shelby, NC, grandchildren; Kyle (Heather) Jackson, Jason (McKayla) Jackson, Anthony (Elizabeth) Jackson, Michaela Mahnke, Josiah Mahnke, Jonathon Beatty, and his great-grandchildren, Calden, Norah, and Isla Jackson, and his dog and constant companion Angel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Eugene and Marie Ockuly, and beloved wife of 36 years, Carol Lynn Ockuly in 2012.

Visitation will be held at St. John Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, from 10 to 11 am, prior to Mass of Christian Burial which will begin at 11 am, with Father Todd Dominique, officiating.

Inurnment will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Ottoville, Ohio, at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the St. John Catholic Church and Defiance CHP Inpatient Hospice Center.

The family wishes to give a special thanks to Americare Nurse Bree & Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice for their loving care and kindness.
