Elijah Rundell was born in St. Lawrence County, New York, August 22, 1830. He married Rosina M. Stevens Jan. 6, 1848. In about 1850 he moved west going by river boat and settled in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. After a time there his first wife Rosina M. Stevens died Feb. 24, 1862. The children were placed in the homes of relatives. Charles Ruben & Ira McChain lived with Nehemiah Daniel Rundell, (a brother of Elijah) Frank Nehemiah lived with Azubah Rundell Shaw, (a sister of Elijah) & Lillian lived with Clara Rundell Patrick (sister of Elijah).

About 1865 Elijah arrived at Mt. Vernon, Iowa, where he purchased 80 acres of land and worked in a butcher shop with his oldest son, Gilbert. In 1867 he married Martha Priscilla Burge who was born Dec. 4th 1837 at Green County Pennsylvania. When she was a small child her family moved to Mt. Vernon where she grew up and married Washington Turner and had 4 children. Turner was killed at Champion Hill in 1863. She then married Elijah Rundell and had 4 more children, some of his other children then came home to live. Elijah died August 22, 1879 at Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
