A native of San Antonio, she was born on July 23, 1931, to Philip and Josephine Neri, née Cortines, a direct descendant of the Canary Islanders.
Mitzie graduated from Jefferson High School and Incarnate Word College. She taught mathematics at Sam Houston High School and was proud of her many students who distinguished themselves in science, teaching, and medicine.
She and her sister enjoyed showing dachshunds, traveling, and entertaining. She was a member of San Francesco Di Paola Church, supporter of the arts and Opera Piccola.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Josephine and Charlotte; uncle and aunt Lt.Col./Mrs. John Lyon. Survivors include cousins from the Cortines and Neri families; godson, Michael Hernandez; friends, Fr. Guy Blair, Barbara and Richard Bertani; cousins, Alicia Beigel P. Raizen and Dr. Mark G. Raizen.
