Joyce R. Harrison, 85, of 5471 Thomaston Road, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 1:00PM in the Chapel of Hart’s Mortuary, Cherry Street. Burial will be in Centerville Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 12:00PM until 1:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to VFW or to World Wildlife Federation.
Mrs. Harrison was a member of Ocmulgee Audubon Society, Middle Georgia Camera Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and United Daughters of the Confederacy. She and her husband were avid travelers after they both retired in 1985. Mrs. Harrison graduated from Perry High School in 1946 and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Mercer University. Born in Houston County, she was the only child of Victor Franklin Rape and Gladys Gertrude Greene Rape. Mrs. Harrison taught in the public schools of Bibb County for many years.
Mrs. Harrison is survived by her husband, James O. Harrison of Macon; daughters, Susan Hamrick Hatfield (Terry) of Port Lavaca, Texas and Patricia Hamrick Dancy (Charles) of Forsyth, Georgia; stepson, Michael Harrison (Panna) of Atlanta; stepdaughter, Julie Boone (Wayne) of Toomsboro; grandchildren, Justin Cooper Byrd and Joshua David Byrd, both of Macon, and Melissa Victoria Thorsell (Torrey) of Bedford, Texas; great grandchild, Victoria Thorsell of Bedford, Texas; step-grandchildren, Aubrey, Kevin and Sean Harrison, Richard and Steven Barron, and Marie Hershberger.
Hart’s Mortuary and Crematory, Cherry Street, has charge of arrangements.
