Word has been received in Washington of the death a few days ago at Fresno, California of the Rev William Walter Baird a native of this county. No particulars concerning his death have been received. He had been ill for some time and last fall underwent a surgical operation for stomach trouble from the effects of which he never fully recovered. Mr Baird was a son of the late Thomas and Martha Baird and was born in Peters township, near Canonsburg, October 12, 1871. He was graduated from Washington and Jefferson college with the class of 1896 and from the Western Theological seminary, Allegheny in 1899. He was licensed by the presbytery of Pittsburg in '98 and on October 12, 1899 was ordained and installed pastor at Cairo, W. Va. He continued in this charge until the past summer, when he took charge of a home mission church in Nebraska. While in college here Mr Baird was an active worker in the college Y M C A, and during most of his college course was in charge of the Sunday school at Laboratory. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Adelaide Sigler, and three children. The body was brought east for interment, which was made in the family lot in the burial ground at Center Presbyterian church, near Canonsburg, last Tuesday.
Mr Baird's mother lives at the old home. He is survived also by four brothers, Frank J and T Wilson, of Lowellville, Ohio and John A and Charles S of Peters township; Mrs Brooks of Fresno, Cal; Mrs Amos Enlow of Imperial and Miss Lizzie Baird, of Peters township are sister.
