Carl Red Bear Sr. was born May 3, 1955, in Bullhead, the son of Isaac Red Bear and Theresa Shave Bear. Carl was adopted by the Patrick Family of White, S.D. He graduated from High School in White. He enjoyed sports and was on the high school basketball team.
He was very active in the community, and served as vice chairman in Bullhead in the 1980's. He worked with the Standing Rock Housing as a clerk in McLaughlin. Carl served in many capacities for Rock Creek District, working in security; he served as a district chairman and as a community house representative.
He left Bullhead in 1993, and recently returned from Minneapolis to be closer to his family. Carl was on Tribal Work Employment Program in November 2002, and served as a youth coordinator for The Rock Creek Youth Organization. He was a JTAC board member for Rock Creek. Carl served as a tax commission representative for Rock Creek until the time of his death.
Carl is survived by two daughters; Carleen Kidder and Alisha Red Bear, both from Fort Yates; four sons, Jamie Red Bear, Fort Yates, and Carlos Red Bear, Sky Red Bear and Jordan Red Bear, all of Bullhead; five brothers, Wayne, Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, Manuel, David and Ernest, all of Bullhead, and Ronnie, Marion, Ill.; and three sisters, Veronica Red Bear, Sisseton, S.D., Janelle Red Bear, Oklahoma, and Fern Red Bear Lutz, Bullhead.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Wally Boy, Donnie, Robert, Delmer, Bruce, Conrad and Oley.
