Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Landgrave Smith and the late Addie Newman Smith. Mrs. Powell was a member of Crosswell Baptist Church. She retired from the Selective Service System and the S.C. Employment Service.
She was preceded in death by a son, George H. Powell ; a daughter, Alma P. Alford; and a grandson, Hughey Brown.
