Her first husband was Valentine W. Young of Rhode Island. The couple moved to New York, where they joined the Mormon Church, and then to Kirtland, Ohio. Valentine died about 1843. In 1844, Jemima married William Stringham in Nauvoo, Illinois. In 1846 she was sealed to Mormon leader Brigham Young as one of his plural wives, along with her sister, Mary Ann Angell. She died in Wanship, Utah, in 1869. Her burial place is uncertain.
