According to Families of Ancient New Haven, Vol. I (Jacobus, 1923), Lydia was a daughter of Abel and Lydia (née Porter) Beecher of Wolcott, CT, and married Samuel Norton of Bristol, CT.

She was a second cousin of Rev. Lyman Beecher.

Widow Lydia and four children (one girl and three boys) were enumerated in 1820 Bristol, CT; they resided next door to her in-laws.

Lydia's death was noted in the records of the Bristol Congregational Church:
Samuel, his wid. [ ], d. Sept. [ ], 1822, Æ 40.
Note: Her month of death and age contradict the 1934 headstone transcription (q.v.)
