The birth of Marie Emmanuelle Prost on 27 June 1847 is recorded in the town registry of Arc-sous-Montenot, Doubs, France. She was the daughter of Pierre Francois "Peter Francis" Prost and his wife Jeanne Adele "Adeline" Robbe. The Prost family emigrated to Missouri in 1854.

Mary wed William D. McAtee 28 June 1874 in Perry County. Their marriage is recorded in the registry of St. Mary's of the Barrens Catholic Church. William was the son of Perry County pioneer Henry McAtee and his wife Mary Manning. The McAtees were present in Perry County as early as 1822.

Together William and Mary McAtee were the parents of three children: Frances H. (b. 1876), Isabelle Ruth (b. 1880) and Henry (b. 1882).

Although Mrs. McAtee's death certificate states that she was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery, the book Mount Hope Cemetery (Perryville, 1991) does not list a headstone for her. It is possible that by the time the book was prepared, there was no identifiable stone for her.
