On Wednesday night at 9 P.M., the silent stroke of death was felt in our midst and Retta Belle, daughter of D.L. and Addie Brooks, was taken from her accustomed place at "home fireside to the home not made with hands, but eternal in the heavens." For one so young she leaves a worthy record. She possessed many qualities of mind and character worthy of our praise and leaves many examples of fidelity to be followed by her young associates. Her conscientious obedience to parental authority was constant; her helping hand relieving tired mother of many burdens. The prompt and correct answers given by her to the questions of religious instructor indicated no alight interest in the important questions of salvation. She delighted in the services of the church and Sunday school, and was faithful to the duties entrusted to her. She is sadly missed among her young friends and none can forbid the tear of sorrow at her loss, thought her early going is again to heaven itself. A short service was held at the house, and at the grave the burial service of the M.E. Church was read and her mortal remains were left to await the resurrection morn.
