William was the son of William and Margaret Weddell Muir from Scotland and a farmer. He married Hannah Jane Wilson on 7 March 1861 in Wood County, and they had Henry A, Frank Eugene, George E., James Wilson, and Charles Edward. William died from typhoid fever at the age of 13 days past his thirtieth birthday.
