Pioneer Mother Answers Summons - Again it becomes the sad duty of the editor to record the passing of another pioneer citizen of the city in the recording of the death of Mrs. Florence Perkins, who passed away early Monday morning. Mrs. Perkins had been in poor health for some time past, and suffered a heart attack Saturday evening. Funeral services are being held this (Wednesday) morning at the Demoney Funeral Home with Rev. Also, FLORENCE PERKINS - Florence Elizabeth Brooks, the daughter of Samuel and Julia Ann Brooks, was born at Sheridan, Iowa, December 2, 1870, and passed away at her home in Downs, Kansas on Aug. 13, 1945 at the age of 74 years 8 months and 11 days. She leaves to mourn her departure her children, Samuel L. Perkins, Boyd Perkins, Vern Perkins and Mrs. Harry Richner all of Downs; Charles Perkins of Kansas City and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, also one sister, Mrs. Hulda Adams, of Fremont, NE. the only surviving relative of a family of 14. Mrs. Perkins has four grandson serving in the armed forces. Although not active in church work she was a firm believer in God.
