Jonathan Strong was born May 1, 1683 at Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts to Ebenezer and Hannah Clapp Strong. He had a childhood sweetheart, Mary Sheldon, who was captured by the Indians and presumed dead. Jonathan married Mehitable Stebbins after Mary was gone and they had the following children: Mehitable, Noah, Jonathan Jr., Caleb, Ichabod, Elias, Experience, Thomas, Joseph, Elisha, Lois, Lois (again), Lucia, Sarah, Hannah and a stillborn son that wasn't named. After the death of his wife Mehitable in 1761, Jonathan married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Sheldon, August 5, 1762. She had been ransomed and returned 3 years after her capture by the Indians - however, believing Mary to be dead, Jonathan was already married to Mehitable. Jonathan died December 9, 1766 at Northampton and is buried in the Bridge Street Cemetery in Northampton.
