In 1826 she was born in northern Fayette County. In 1828 Campbell County was formed from part of northern Fayette County, and in 1871 more of northern Fayette County was added to Campbell County. In 1931 Campbell County merged with Fulton County and today is southern Fulton County.

Frances was the daughter of John Torrance and Sarah McGuire. She married Elias Gray on 12 Dec 1841 in Campbell County, GA, (now Fulton County, GA). They moved to Benton County, AL, (now Calhoun County, AL) and lived in Cleburne, Etowah, and Cherokee counties.
