Served with the Essex Troop, NJNG, Newark, NJ, 1890 - 1897. Spanish - American War served as a Captain, Adjutant General Corp, United States Volunteer May 25, 1898 - March 7, 1899.

Enlisted, Jan. 16, 1900, in Troop 2, Squadron A Cavalry, NYNG, at the Madison Avenue Armory, New York City. He saw field service with Troop B during the Croton Dam Strike, April 1900.

In 1916 he saw active service once more with Troop B, Squadron A on the Mexican border. He mustered in with Troop B, Squadron A Cavalry, June 30, 1916. Squadron A was assigned to Camp McAllen, Texas, as part of the 6th NY Division (later to be the 27th Division). The Squadron returned to New York, December 23, 1916, and he mustered out of border service as a Seargent, December 28, 1916.

Squadron A reorganized for the World War as the 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division and assigned to Camp Wadsworth, SC, for training. December 1, 1917, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant, and assigned to the 102nd Trains, 27th Division. Reassigned back to Company B, 105th Machine Gun Battalion, Dec. 7, 1917. Discharged May 11, 1918, for physical disability.
