The son of Charles Daily and his wife Eleanor "Nellie" (Temple), Philip was born in Pittsburgh in about 1762. After his father's death, he removed with his mother and other Pennsylvania families to the fort at Louisville (Beargrass). During the Revolutionary War he served in Lt. Horatio Claggett's 3rd Company of MD, a regiment commanded by Colonel Nathan Ramsey. His name appears on the roll date February 1778.

He married Mary (Wise), the daughter of Valentine and Katie (Franz) on 02 Feb 1786 in Bullitt Co., Kentucky and in 1796 removed to Clark Co., Indiana.

He was granted a parcel of land by President James Madison on February 28, 1816.

"SACRED to the memory of Philip Daily, Sen. who departed this life March 14, 1830 in the 69th year of his age. Lamented as an affectionate parent and exemplary Christian he lives beyond the tomb."
